I recently found my bag o' Polaroids that I've collected over the past ten years or so. Polaroids from assisting gigs to jobs I've done. Just a mish-mash of stuff. More than ten years of my life are in these polaroids. Back then I tried to collect polaroids from assisting gigs I did. Not necessary of who was photographed but usually of me holding the light meter, being the stand-in. I look through a few and selected a few of my own photo shoots.
This was my first well-known celebrity I photographed - Cheech Marin and I was scared shitless. It is easy being the assistant and hanging around talent, it is another when you're the photographer ! I just remember him not having a good day as something had just happen prior to arriving at the hotel.
Ah, the Olympic cyclist ! Shot down in Carson at the Home Depot Center. Although he lived in LA, he is on the Singaporean team. I remember having a conversation with him...I asked him what happens if he doesn't make it .... if he has a plan B. He just looked at me and told me, there's no plan B. And I took that to heart. I don't have a plan B either.
This one is probably around 2004. For a magazine, I was sent to photographed an adult star. She was funny, nice and completely down to earth. The photographs never ran. I still have dinner with her and her friends whenever she flys back to LA.
