My red-eye flight got in to BWI around 7:30 am, picked up the rental vehicle by 8:30, and managed to pick up all the equipment I needed by 11 am (despite me getting lost often ! Thank goodness for the iPhone w/ GPS) Since I had time, I figured I'll drive down to DC and take a look around.
First impressions was so many tourists, not enough parking space ! I finally found public parking at a local hotel. It costs $10 for 2 hours while parking meters are $1 for 30 minutes. I didn't have any change and actually, don't mind paying $10 since my vehicle was stored in a garage so none of my equipment would get heated.
Fascinating to walk around the monument here. There's so much history on the soil where I stood. The thing I found a bit strange is that though I recognized the certain monuments, I didn't have a lay of the land and where they were in relation to each other. See the second photo ? The distance from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial (where I am standing) to the Washington Monument is close a mile !
I'm charging all my Profoto and camera batteries tonight. Have all my gear ready for the next 3 day shoot.
