Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I cosplayed Lulu from Final Fantasy. I decided on this character because the costume was a bit harder, she’s generally overall just a kick-butt kinda girl. I enjoy a challenge.
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
It was actually a little easier. I’d imagined a whole lot of boning going into it, but finding a corset for the underneath made it just that much simpler to make it. I would eventually like to do a better version with true leather and dyed lace, but at the time I was thrilled just to get it done! The wig was probably the hardest. All of those individual strands of braids being wrapped around a foam ball and having to attatch it to a wig was just a ridiculous venture, but it came out fairly well.
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ? ^^
Usually I just get the general fan girls (or guys) squeal and a hug. Or someone who is a character from FF wanting pictures and i’m always up for it. Someone once told me I was very intimidating, which makes me sad! I love meeting people and i’m really nice, I promise!
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
My friend Angel actually started me in cosplay and my first two costumes were Kagome from Inuyasha and my own version of a smiley Pocky box. Tons of fun, but I had so many bruises after A-kon in that box because people kept tackling me!
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
My first con was Oni-con, it was actually my only one that i’ve flown to. It was great, though I admit, I hardly knew a thing about cosplay or conventions. I just knew I liked Inuyasha and wanted to dress up too. My favorite though has to have been my first A-kon. A-kon 15. I was so proud of that Pocky box and all the love I got for it. I’m determined to make a Ramune bottle too!
What does cosplay mean to you ?
I think cosplay is more than just dressing up to fit in or because you like a series. It’s an expression of art, a way to show your skill and your love of something great. I’ve done everything from anime to movies to sci-fi and I enjoyed every costume I made. It’s the experience of not only dressing up, but going to meet thousands of other people just like you that love the same thing and making new friends.
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
Ursula. Hands down. With mechanical moving arms and everything!
