Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I was cosplaying Ayane from the Dead or Alive series! I’ve always loved Ayane’s character she’s alot of what im not but wish I were! she’s really cool and pretty and composed all the time which is almost the opposite of me haha! That’s a big reason I cosplay Ayane! When I have the costume on I get to be another person who’s nothing like myself and it’s amazing and a lot of fun! Ayane has so many costumes! I want to make all of them but from the begining when i started playing Dead or Alive the purple dress stood out to me the most, mostly because of the huge red bow in the back that just grabs your attention and looks amazing!
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
Making my Ayane dress was a lot of hard work! it’s one of the first costumes I’ve made so I was very nervous about it. About halfway through i realized I had no idea how to make that giant bow in the back! I almost gave up on it but Im really happy I didn’t! Unfortunatly the costume in the picture is incomplete because of time it’s missing a small design on the right side of the dress and a long rope around the sash but im very satisfied with how it came out!
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ? ^^
About ten minutes after ariving at the con i started feeling nervous that people were not going to recognize me! I worried about it the whole ride up and was getting really nervous untill a guy saw me and fell to his knees yelling “Ayane! Be Still My Beating Heart!” I still laugh when i think about it!
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
I started cosplaying about three years ago when i went to my first convention my mom bought me a costume (Yuki Nagato via, Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu) from one of the dealers because AnimeFEST falls on my birthday weekend and I was hooked! When I first heard about convention and people dressing up I never thought I’d be any good at it! I was really nervous when I put on the costume that people would give me weird stares but not it’s quite the opposite! If i don’t have a costume on I feel so out of place!
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
My first convention was AnimeFEST 2007! I think my favorite convention is A-kon because there’s so much to do! but it’s a hard decision between AnimeFEST and A-kon.
What does cosplay mean to you ?
That’s a tough one, I think to my cosplay means getting to step out of yourself even for just a few minutes and be something or someone you’ve only ever imagined!
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
Wow unlimited? In that case… I would want to cosplay Rita from Tales of Vesperia! Not a very complex costume but one that would make lots of time and money to find all the little things and make her outfit look perfect!
