Tell me about the outfit you are wearing
Death The Kid – Soul Resonance version
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
Well the only real challenge was the giant cannons I wore on my arms. It was pretty difficult and they were heavy. However, heavy props also tend to be more authentic and sturdy. The stress of cons (bumping them into people and such) caused the need for some repairs for the next con x.x
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?
I guess just their face progression. There is the initial “Hey it’s Death the Kid” then there is “wow that Kid has his Death Cannons!” then I turn the lights on inside them and their face gets even better ^-^
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
Well as the average supergeek fanboying over anime in middle school, I would often play video games and watch anime and then daydream of being my heroes from these adventures. Then in high school I discovered anime conventions! I knew from that first con that I wanted to be involved in this celebration of nerdy goodness. Of course I still don’t have any superpowers or pokemon but cosplaying gives me a high like nothing else does.
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
My first convention was Anime Weekend Atlanta. It is by far the best con I have ever attended and I have not missed a year since my first. I will make it a yearly tradition for as long as AWA and I are still kicking.
What does cosplay mean to you ?
So much more than clothes and props. It is how I have met some of the coolest people alive, and some of the scariest people I now know to avoid (which makes it all the more fun. You can’t have a hero without conflicts eh?) It is how I met my fiancee. I proposed to her in cosplay at AWA in front of thousands of onlookers. Cosplay is an experience that I cannot live without now that i know it.
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
Ooh that is a naughty question. I think a shorter answer would be what I WOULDN’T do. But some of my dreams are things like a fully armored MegaManX, Ulquiorra’s final form or a fully functional and customized Spartan armor designed to the likeness of my Halo 3 Spartan with communicators in my helmet to talk with my friends (who would also be their Spartans from Halo 3. Those are just a few examples.
