Ginger-Chan (Nashville, TN)

Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?

I was cosplayed as Mizune from Soul Eater in her five witch form. I picked this character cause i love villians so much. And you almost never see that character or at least that version of her.

Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?

This was so much harder than i thought it was going to be. I knew it was an advanced costume when i started but this was way beyond me. But i stuck to it and kept trying. I ,of course, chose two fabrics that are very much not fun to work with, velvet and pleather. I actually bought more than i needed so i would have some to work and practice with. So i worked and worked and experimented and cried more than once. Eventually after sooo many hours of toiling it slowly came together.

Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?

Honestly most people do not know the character but say they must have pictures of it. Or they have questions about the top and how i made it kinda float there around me rather than actually sit on me, or if i’m wearing anything under it. But most often people want to touch that hat. At AWA One particluar person walked up to me and just began stroking my hat. He said “I have no idea who or what this is but i love it”

How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?

I got started on cosplay by watching cosplay videos on youtube. Mostly of two groups in particular, KOI Cosplay and FDP.I saw what they were doing and thought it looked like alot of fun so i gave it a try and haven’t stopped since.

What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?

My first con was Momocon 2009. My favorite con i think would have to be MTAC 2009. People there were just a little more open and more willing to just come up and talk to you. I made some really great friends there and often make plans to se them again at other cons and sometimes we do group cosplays together.AWA would be a very close second because there was just so much to see and do and the massive dealers room.

What does cosplay mean to you ?

Cosplay is costumed roleplaying. That’s it. It doesn’t mean you absolutely have to make your cosplay. I don’t make all of my own, most yes but not all. It’s meant to be fun and if you’re not having fun it’s one of two things. Either you’re not truly cosplaying or cosplay just isn’t for you.Cosplay to me is like my own mini-vactions. It’s a way to just get away for a few days.

If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?

Claire Leonelli from heat guy J (not a aprticularly complicated cosplay but the wig is very hard and complex.
