Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I’m dressed as Vash the Stampede from Trigun. My reason behind the costume is kinda 2-fold. The simple part is, Trigun is my favorite anime and manga series. The complicated part, I feel like i identify with Vash. He is a gunman who fights for love and peace, he does not like people to get hurt or see them die. I am kinda the same way, except I’ve no skill with a gun:P.
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
The creating of any character is easier to do mentally than physically. There are always more details as you go through the prosses. Vash is a very complicated and highly detailed. That being said, even things like boots and gloves are super detailed and destinctive. The main point of this costume, the duster coat, was a big challenge. We used marine quality vinal, which is waterproof and normally used for outdoor things and on boats, this made for a heavy duty feel and leather look. Sadly 2 sewing machines were killed trying to make the duster. All in all it turned out well.
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?
Hmmm….well a few people have said that I am the best Vash that they have seen.^^
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
Halloween started it. Getting to be one of my heros for a night was always fun as a kid. Now I do this more than just the end of October.
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con ?
My first con was Anime-Fest 2006. But, I can’t really pick a favorite con. Each con is different but they all have good points. I suppose if I had to pick a con it’d be All-con. All-con has sci-fi anime and its where I won my first award for Vash.
What does cosplay mean to you ?
Being creative, sharing your fandom with others, and looking awesome.
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
Ohhh man…..probably every version of Vash in leather because there are around 7 versions of the costume. The movie version of Iron Man would be awesome too:)
