Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I’m cosplaying as Myoubi from the manga Alichino. I chose her because I really liked her icy personality and her frilly dresses.
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
The process of making this costume was fairly smooth, but it took a lot more time than I’d imagined I made a petticoat first, which actually soaked up the most time of any one piece of the costume and ended up taking a whopping 30 yards of 4″ wide tulle sewn together for fullness. I then started building on top of that, altering and making my own patterns for the skirt, jacket and sleeves– this was another 8 yards of velveteen. The hat was really fun and went really fast, and the roses on top were my favorite part of the whole costume.
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ? ^^
A lot of people didn’t know my character (which is not surprising since it’s such an obscure manga) but still took my photo and told me they thought I looked really pretty. <3
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
My friends were older when I went to my first con and introduced me to cosplay. Since I was learning to sew and really liked anime, I decided to start making costumes. My first costume was a school uniform in pink, and it was really poorly made. I was only 14 then.
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
The first convention I went to was Anime Expo 2002, my freshman year of high school. My favorite so far was Pacific Media Expo 2007 because I saw a lot of really wonderful people, met Novala Takemoto and cosplayed as Lulu from FFX.
What does cosplay mean to you ?
I love cosplaying! My favorite part about it is how challenging it can be. I like the whole process of starting from the beginning, planning, making it, and then wearing it and turning myself into a walking piece of art.
