Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I’m cosplaying as the Black Knight Uniform version of Kallen Kouzuki from Code Geass. I decided to cosplay as her mainly because I had a group of friends going as other characters from that series and we wanted to do a group cosplay. Also, I really fit into her character.
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
Actually I didn’t make this cosplay from scratch, I got it commissioned. What I did first was get a few different pictures of the character from different angles. I then tailored my costume that I received in the mail to fit me better along the waist and the arms to make it look more like the character’s. Then I went out to find what I needed to make it even better. I bought a wig that I styled myself to make it look more like the character and I colored my eyebrows using lipliner because it matched the color of the wig.
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?
Because I travelled in a group, people were constantly stopping me and asking for photos. Also, the photoshoots that we had at Otakon with people from the same anime were AMAZING and completely hysterical. I made a lot of friends at the con from all around the country that I still talk to to this day, including my boyfriend. I had a lot of guys asking for photos with me, so that flattered me. ^_^
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
I started cosplaying unintentionally, actually. At the first con I went to, I just styled my hair by flipping it out and wore normal clothing, and people still thought I looked like Yuna from Final Fantasy X-2. So while I was there, I bought a frilly skirt and a matching shirt and acted like the character. That got me interested in cosplaying because I realized it could be a lot of fun.~
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
The first con that I attended was the New York Anime Festival 2008 with a group of friends. I was new to the whole Anime-thing and still am pretty new now. My favorite con that I’ve been to would have to be Otakon 2009. It was the most fun I’ve had at a convention, ever. I met a lot of new friends and even met a boy who’s now my boyfriend.
What does cosplay mean to you ?
Cosplay, to me, is a way to escape from your everyday life. You feel like an entirely different person because you are getting into the character of the person you are cosplaying as. It’s also a way to meet new people that you never would have spoken to otherwise, because you already know you have something in common, the love of games and anime.
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
I would want to cosplay as Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII, and Dissidia.
