Tell me about the outfit you are wearing ?
I cosplayed as a Steampunk because it was something Original. I strive for individuality and I thought about what would be a cosplay that could conform to my idea.
Tell me about the process of making your outfit
Well, it was a last minute thing because I changed my mind at the last week, and so my friend Kelly offered to help me make the costume from scratch (which was such a huge favor for me I cannot thank her enough for all her hard work and effort!!!!!! <33). I had most of the parts already (shirt, slacks, etc.) but the most important piece was the coat. She spent a week designing and sewing the jacket and it was harder than what i first imagined it to be. I ordered the hat and goggles online while Kelly made the coat. The first day of Fanime, the coat needed just one more detail done and wasn't finished until Saturday.
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?
A little. I got the occasional “Hey can i take a picture with you?!” but one story was when I was playing In the Groove (a form of DDR) in my costume and i was playing a pretty difficult song and i had a pretty good sized crowed around me and I thought everyone was looking at my costume but in fact most of them said “WOW YOU’RE SO GOOD AT DDR!!!!!!!!!!!!” (Even though I’m really not ^^;;)
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
I’ve always had a slight interest in it ever since i started reading manga in 2nd grade. I live in a small town that follows the mainstream media and when i first cosplayed in 5th grade I got the reaction of “…..what are you wearing?” and after i explained “oh……what’s that?”. I also met friends in middle school that shared the same interest as me that weren’t completely obsessed with everything Japan related. We would cosplay thinking that only few people in the world do this when the reality was that many people cosplay! Every year Halloween I’ve been cosplaying and I still get questions like “Who are you” or “whats that?”.
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
Fanime 09. First and best con ever. I heard previous years lacked the quality that Fanime 09 had and I’ve always wanted to go but I never had friends in San Jose to stay with and my parents wouldn’t take me all 4 days. I will never forget Fanime 09, and to this day I look back at those memories and i still talk about it with friends and share my experiences. I couldn’t of been happier, it was the happiest week of my entire life.
What does cosplay mean to you ?
It defines you as a person, it reflects upon your personality and interests. Being a cosplayer is really fun to me and its a great experience.
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
My dream cosplay is to be some form of neo/steampunk/dark assassin. Something totally Original and will be drawn out for future cosplay referencing. :]
