Just researching on Flickr for cosplays and found this Phoenix-based photographer Almost Focused. What drew me to his style is the use of darkness in his images. Most photographers I know try to balance the subject as well as the background but Fox here decides to let it fall off which makes for a compelling image in my opinion.
This isn't exactly a new technique or anything like that but I look through hundreds if not thousands of images - both cosplay and non-cosplay. Something about his work draws me in, I like to find out more about the people in his photos - and to me, that is definitely a good trait to have as a photographer. You want to draw people into your image. Make your viewers stop and really examine what is exactly going on in the image.
See more of his work after the jump.
I also noticed looking through his Phoenix Comicon images he likes to go for lower angles - nothing wrong with that - definitely gives the "hero's perspective". I'll be keeping an eye on this guy in the future. In the meantime, you can follow him on Flickr or Facebook.
Next time I'm at a con in that state, I'll make sure to see if I can meet up with him.
