About a month ago I was at A-kon and while checking the schedule I made note of the cosplay-related ones which I scheduled my Twitter to tweet out half hour alerts that the panel was about to start as well as info to where the panel are.
Unfortunately with what I do, it is really difficult to get out to panels. Luckily CosPod, a podcast about .... duh, what else, cosplay ! was at A-kon capturing the panel for your enjoyment. Please check out their site as they have other videos such as tutorials and such. Yes, I've watched (or really listen - I have it running while working on the computer) all the videos. Why do you think I'm posting this so long after A-kon ??? If CosPod does a panel at your local con, I say go to check it out. After watching hours of panels, Amber really knows her stuff.
What I've done is collected the cosplay-related ones and posted them up for your convenience after the jump. Are ya ready ? 1....2.....3..... JUMP !
Ana Aesthetic along with her friends Lindsey Lewis and Lauren Marklen presented All About Cosplay - which is a general catch-all.
Ana Aesthetic, Lindsey Lewis and Lauren Marklen also presented Taking Cosplay To The Next Level and here's where I started glazing over as they talk about sewing techniques as well as other topics. This panel runs a hour and a half. I admit, a lot of it went over my head.
In this one Yaya Han runs down a list of helpful cosplay-related links as well as stories about her experiences. lol, she mentions that her cosplay she wanted to do if unlimited funds would be Bubblegum Crisis' Nene ! Yeah, Bubblegum Crisis is one of the anime I grew up watching.
On Sunday was Yaya Han's Cosplay Q&A's panel which is more of a casual panel where she talks about how she tackles her projects. Question out is how to deal with creepers, what her comfortable/uncomfortable cosplay to wear, crossplaying, OC (original cosplay), and construction of her outfits. I think everyone should watch this section ( 52:50)
This panel was run by the CosPod crew - Amber & Valerie - about cosplay care and repair. Try to ignore the noise from the panel next door. This is pretty helpful as I haven't heard much about the storage of your cosplay. And freezer paper ? Had no idea it would be so helpful. They also cover wig storage as well as what to do with retired wigs. Final topic relates to cosplay repair kits. And invisible threads ? What magic is this ? Oh, they also cover adhesives too ! Look, just watch the video :)
Amber from CosPod admits she's addicted to cosplay and gives this panel about creating your first cosplay. She does mention about buying your first cosplay and what to look out for from stores to commissioners. Other topic : Duct-tape dummy/dress form, dye lots,
This Anthony Brownrigg with John (didn't catch his last name) handles this Special Effects & Makeup panel.
Crossplay Cosplay w/Lindsay Lewis will cover topics such as binding, compression vest, make-up, eyebrows and there's even a demonstration !
Amber from CosPod talks about improving your cosplay - she talks about pockets, armor, EL wire/LED, swords, bow (as in bow & arrow), and metallic finish for armor. Definitely learn some things while watching this one. She covers a lot of ground in this video. Oh, I ignore the panel next door because uh... they are loud !
UPDATE ! I understand Val (TifalA) will be giving three cosplay panels at AnimeFEST this year.
