A few years ago, I heard of a documentary called Four Days at Dragon, a look into what I consider one of the premiere cosplay/costuming events in the country. I had a chance to visit DragonCon in Atlanta, GA last year and it was crazy ! People dubbed it Mardi Gras for nerds and yup, pretty accurate description ! In 2009, Jack Walsh and Gordon Ray descended into the 35,000 attended con to come away with exactly what is DragonCon all about ?
Videos, interview and their latest project after the jump.
Watch Four Days at Dragon*Con. on PBS. See more from Dragon Con.
The film was finally released in 2011 and won 2011 SE Regional Emmy Winner for Best Arts/Entertainment program as well as a Telly Award. I had a chance to interview Jack Walsh back in fall of 2010 about his film.
Recently, the Four Days at Dragon Facebook page had a post seeking out cosplayers in the Atlanta area.
We're looking for someone in the Atlanta area who is just dipping their toe into cosplay. We need someone who is A) in the nearby Atlanta metro area B) making from scratch their first ever costume and C) planning on debuting it at either DragonCon or AWA. If you are all three of these, reply here and we'll maybe be in touch. So for those in Atlanta who are interested, contact them via their Facebook page. I'm gonna say it again, in my eyes, Atlanta is the unofficial capital of cosplay in the United States. There's DragonCon, Anime Weekend Atlanta, MomoCon, Furry Weekend Atlanta (no relations), Seishun Con, Anachron Con, and so much more just located in this one city.
