LAPhotoNet

I first met Nelson (LAPhotoNet) back at PMX 2011 here in Los Angeles. I was cosplaying at that time and noticed his flash had a home-made diffusion - a paper plate Yes folks, feel free to experiment with your equipment ! You don't have to purchase ready-made photo accessories. Sometimes I use tissue paper taped over my flash to diffuse it but whatever works, works. Later on at ALA, he moved to tupperware :)

Nelson is relatively new to the cosplay scene. If you check his galleries on his site, he only started at AX 2011 and has clocked up 5 cons so far - AX, PMX, ALA, AM2 and this recent AX. Oh, check out his Floating Lolita series. Plus he's the only photographer I know who does lolita meet-ups too (at least to my knowledge).

You can see more of his work after the jump as well as a video interview I did with him and Arizona cosplayer Dead Pepper  back at ALA earlier this year about photography and cosplay.

His equipment is pretty simple : flash with umbrella and a camera. He does some photoshop special effects at time but for the most part, keeps it clean. In the video, I just so happen to run into him at ALA and started asking questions to him as well as the cosplayer Dead Pepper from Arizona and I follow them along on their photo shoot.
