Yes folks, this Friday I'm flying back to Canada for Cos & Effect, a Costume, Cosplay, and Alternative Fashion convention held at The University of British Columbia. This con is a bit different from the others. Think of it as your typical anime con but with more stuff geared toward costuming with such panels as How to Sew a Catgirl, Replicating Props on a Budget, Altering a Pattern, and 501st Legion Costuming Panel. Don't worry there's still enough of the familiar panels such as Hetalia : Ask a Nation and Whose Line is it Anime. And yes, there's dances (steampunk one also !), gaming rooms, a maid cafe, Cos & Effect Idol, and Costume Contest.
Look there's plenty to do here as you can tell from their schedule. Speaking of schedule, here's mine for the weekend after the jump.
+ FRIDAY +
Flying in so since no idea how long to get there with the customs, traffic and all that, I won't be setup for dealers that night. Instead just relaxing and checking out panels.
+ SATURDAY +
10:00 am - 4:00 pm - Dealer Hall w/copies of my book.
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Con Photo Taking for Dummies @ Panel #1 (207/209)
5:30 pm - 6:30 pm - The Making of Cosplay in America @ Panel #1 (207/209)
Saturday will probably be my busiest day. In addition to being in dealer hall, I have two panels in the afternoon - one on taking con photos and the other on the making of the book. The photography one is a new panel for me - I've never done it before but I've done enough photography that I hope I can give y'all a basic primer on how-to. The second panel is sort of the story behind the book - I've done the same talk before in Mexico and in Canada - both times with a translator so this will be the first time this year I've done the panel without a translator !
+ SUNDAY +
10:00 am - 4:00 pm Dealer Hall w/copies of my book.
So that's it guys ! I'm excited to be back in Canada - especially Vancouver since I haven't been back in over 10 years. Hey last time I was in the city, Jackie Chan was filming Rumble in the Bronx !
After Cos & Effect, I'm not schedule to be at any cons outside of California except for New York Comic Con in October.
