When I was in Montreal for Otakuthon a few months back, I would ask cosplayers if there was a Canadian-related cartoon that people could cosplay from but people outside of Canada couldn't recognize it.
So I was fascinated to stumble upon this cosplay from Zabava from a 1979 Russian cartoon. Russian cosplayer Matsu-Sotome did the character justice - I managed to find a copy of the cartoon on YouTube.

Now I'm curious to find out for non-United States cosplayers, do you cosplay from your country's own cartoon or pop culture icon ? I'm adding pop culture icon to include singers, TV personalities, basically anything that someone would recognize but only if they lived in your country. For example, saying Lady Gaga wouldn't count - she's international.
Oh, added bonus, found also on YouTube a video mixing the original cartoon with cosplayers.
