Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I am cosplaying as Anya Arlstreim in her Knight of Round uniform, from code Geass R2. I really like the Knights of Round, and Anya is a very cool character! She’s young, but she gets to pilot one of the mecha in the series! And she has seriously awesome pink hair!
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
Well, I only did a small portion of the outfit, the rest was commissioned from a friend’s tailor. Otherwise I did some adjustments… otherwise I did dye my own stockings pink, and fashioned some leg garters out of a pair of suspenders. Ha ha.
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ? ^^
I really debuted this outfit at Fanime 2009, and a lot of people enjoyed it. I was surprised that many people told me that there were not that many Anya cosplayers in California, and true enough, I was the only one there that year. My friend always tells me I like rather moe as her? Ha ha.
How did you get started cosplaying ?
I went to my first convention with my dad, and saw all the really amazing cosplay! Afterwards I knew I just had to try! Luckily I had some friends who were also con-goers, so we all decided to give it a try one time and got hooked!
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite anime con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
Hmm, my first convention ever was MegaCon… 2002? In Orlando – it’s more of a comic / sci-fi con, but it was very fun anyways! My favourite con… I guess it has to be Fanime! It’s a really big con with so much to do… yet you can still get to chat and make a lot of friends! And a lot of really good photographers – like you – to boot! ^_^
What does cosplay mean to you ?
Getting to show your artistic creativity and appreciation of a character & series! And a good outlet to meet other people with similar interests! Cosplay = fun!
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
Oh, there’s so many! My first cosplay I had always wanted to do was Guru Clef from Magic Knight Rayearth – although lately I’ve been wanting to finally get to doing my favourite manga character of all time – Jing from King of Bandits Jing, with Kir in Kir Royale form~ That, and maybe finally getting a Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle Sakura done… right now I’m being lazy over a May from Guilty Gear though.
And specifically about you two, I would love to hear how you two met. Like I said before, y’all make such a cute couple ^^
As to how we met – on our University campus! We both were going to a Asian Student Assembly on campus… our eyes met… and the rest was history! Yan was very bold and came and sat down next to me and stuck up a conversation.
