Mina (New Jersey)

Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?

I’m cosplaying Kanae Kotonami, better known as Moko, from Skip Beat! Moko is a strong, ambitious person and I admire that about her. Also, she just looks cool and since my friend was cosplaying Kyoko, I decided to do Moko so we could be a team!

Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?

This outfit was commissioned by Madi’s friend. The cosplay was a bit big for me but I’m still really grateful she did it in such short time!

Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?

The most interesting one was when we ran into a fangirl coming off a elevator. She loved our costumes and practically glomped us. It definitely made my day.

How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?

I first started cosplaying back in 2003-2004 as Yuna (songstress version) from FFX-2 at Big Apple Anime Fest. The ability to dress up like your favorite character, act like them for a day, the magnificent costumes and entire bonding experience you have with other cosplayers- there’s a variety of reasons why I got interested in cosplay.

What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?

The first con I attended was Big Apple Anime Fest in 2003. It is probably my favorite con too because it was my first. Everything was new and exciting, everyone was really friendly. It was my first time being exposed to cosplay as well. Overall, it gave me a big rush.

What does cosplay mean to you ?

This is going to sound pretty simplistic but honestly, cosplay is all about having fun and doing your character justice by making a decent costume.

If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?

It’s a toss up between Shadow Yukiko from Persona 3 and Floral Fallal Yuna. I think both outfits are gorgeous!
