Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
I was cosplaying Villetta from Code Geass. I had a friend mention that I looked a whole lot like Villetta. I really fell in love with the series and wanted to do some thing special in it’s name.
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
The hardest part was creating and positioning the yellow symbol in the front. I went through three different fabrics until I finally found one that stretched and looked just right. It took me so many hours to complete. Once I got passed that, it was cake. Just had to spend extra attention to details and measurements. I definitely had a few late nights with this one. Lipton Tea and the ghost in the shell soundtracks <3333
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?
I had one boy say, “oh my god, SHE IS VILLETTA, way better than the other girl cosplaying villetta”. Apparently there were two at Anime Expo. I met so many passionate and talented cosplayers when I wore it. I had to wear yellow contacts for this one and I was on my way to the convention and this little girl with her mother pointed to me and yelled, “look its a monster!” I think it was the contacts. That made me giggle.
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
Otakon 2003 my friend let me borrow a costume she made. The character was named Beramode. It was my first anime convention and it blew me away. I have never been to anything like it and cosplay definitely made the experience that much better. I mean I was already the biggest geek ever, I think I was more than happy to get even worse hahah!!
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
My first convention was Otakon 2003. My overall favorite convention is definitely San Diego Comic Con. San Diego Comic con is not a cosplay convention. Its a yoga pants and nike shoxx kind of convention. There is so much to do, you will not want to eat. In fact every day I would starve to the point where I just might die and I found it annoying that I had to eat. In the anime/sci fi realm, definitely Dragon Con. I am a big sci fi nerd so it had a good balance of some anime and sci fi. More of a mature crowd and good gravy, the cosplay was amazing. I have no idea where some people find the time to put some of their costumes together. I enjoy the smaller conventions but they do not compare to the more interesting big ones.
What does cosplay mean to you ?
Cosplay is a means of creative expression. A way to break from the norm of every day life. An opportunity to just walk up to some one else and just have a random conversation about eachothers hard work. I really love meeting new people from all walks of life so cosplay is a great conversation starter. I tend to be a little shy other wise
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
Bubblegum Crisis!!!!!!
