Tell me about the outfit you are wearing

I’m cosplaying as Yoko from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, she’s a spunky sniper with a sharp attitude to match!

Tell me about the process of making your outfit

As there isn’t much to the outfit, I didn’t think it would be too difficult, but there were a few bumps in the road I came across. Eventually I worked out the kinks and finished up the cosplay.

Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?

Because of the amount of skin it shows, and popularity of the character, I do get quite a few people asking for pictures, but my favorite is when people who share the same love for the character come and talk to me about it. At AX this year, a guy who was a big fan of Yoko and had bought the art book they sell, came over to talk to me and let me look through the book while we talked about our love for the series.

How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?

I got started by seeing other people doing it online, I’ve always loved to sew so one year for Halloween I decided I wanted to make a Riza Hawkey (Fullmetal Alchemist) cosplay, and with the help of my aunt, who taught me a lot about what I know, I made one. After that, I loved the hobby so much I just couldn’t stop!

What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?

The first con I ever attended was Anime Banzai in Utah of 2006. My favorite con I’ve ever attended so far has been NDK in Colorado of 2009.

What does cosplay mean to you ?

To me, cosplay means expressing your love for a character by making a replica of their costume. It has also been a way for me to meet new people, and learn new skills.

If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?

Currently it would be Elizabeth Swann’s wedding dress from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. I think it’s a gorgeous dress, and I plan on making it some day but I know it’ll be a few years long process I’m sure.
