Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?

I am cosplaying Amy Sorel from Soul Calibur IV. I have always loved gothic lolita style, so getting to be a loli with a cool weapon was too good to pass up. I am wearing her alternate white version as not that many people have cosplayed it.

Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?

The outfit was rather hard for me as it was a very sewing oriented costume. Sewing is a task I find tedious, as I prefer working on props like her flashy little sword. The wig was also rather hard as it was my first time styling one. The costume required a lot of little details such as tiny skulls in hair and on her boots, and hand painted roses on her sleeves and jacket that I am rather proud of.

Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ? ^^

I had a guy come up to me, feel my weapon, knock on it, then smile and give me a thumbs up before walking away.

How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?

I got started in cosplaying when my older sister dragged me into it many years ago. I was already an otaku and I love to play dress up so how could I resist?

What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?

My first con ever was Otakon and it is still my favorite con. Perhaps it’s just the time of year, or the quality of the convention center, but Otakon just seems to draw out all of the best cosplayers.

What does cosplay mean to you ?

Cosplay, to me, is exactly as it sounds: costume play. There are cosplays of generic costumes like maids and nurses, but what immediately comes to mind when you say cosplay is a fan who wants to physically recreate a specific character. It is a way of publicly displaying both our fandom and our artistic skills. Nothing is better than getting a compliment on a cosplay that you worked hard on.

If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?

A giant mecha sounds cool. Really, the more badass the costume, the more I want to do it. If I could do something that would blow people’s minds I would be so happy.
