Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?

Rick Hunter from Robotech. It was officially my first anime series. I always thought he was really cool, and I’ve always loved his orange jumpsuit and Veritech the most.

Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?

It went well, and was fairly easy. Although next time when doing a full body suit, I’ll use a fabric that stretches more.

Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ?

Because it’s an older anime, these outfits aren’t the most popular, especially with so many younger kids at conventions now-a-days. It was exciting to get the few people who reacted and knew what we were cosplaying.

How did you get started cosplaying ?

I made a fairly inaccurate Squall Leonhart costume for Halloween about 4 years ago, and when Omaha had it’s first convention, I amped it up a little and went from there.

What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?

My first con was OtakuOmaha ‘07. I can’t actually say that I have a favorite con, because it’s usually not the actual convention that’s cool, but the people that you’re hanging with and that you meet. I rarely attend any of the events a con is holding besides cosplay competitions, so it’s just a matter of what you make the convention.

What does cosplay mean to you ?

To me, I cosplay for the same reason I collect the figures/toys of the characters I love. As a fan of those characters, I want another way to experience and appreciate them besides just the game/anime/manga.

If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?

When it comes down to it, I’ve already done my core group of favorite characters (not that I can’t add more to the list), but as far as a really intense cosplay goes, I’d really like to do a very impressive Kain from Final Fantasy IV, or the white and red Battleoid from Robotech/Macross.
