Tell me about the outfit you are wearing – who are you cosplaying and how did you decide to pick this particular character ?
The outfit I am wearing is Kakashi from Naruto. I pick this particular character is because throughout reading the Manga and watching the anime, he’s the only ninja that stands apart yet makes you understand him better as seeing him as a ninja.
Tell me about the process of making your outfit – was it easier or tougher than you imagine it to be ?
The process of making this outfit was critical. You may think it’s just a vest with clips, no! The measurements, the type of fabric material, the time to be fitted, every little detail must match and the process of making the Kakashi Vest. All this was done by my very own seamstress, Lourdes. Not only she got the materials that my vest needed but she worked on it for hours. She was done making it under a day. She made a few outfits for other cosplayers too. Her work is unbelievable! Not only that, once she works with you on making you outfit, she go’s for the extra mile to make sure your outfit comes out how it should look. Now that’s my very first outfit. Once I was her work for the very first time, My imagination was running wild! “Which anime should I cosplay as?!”
Any interesting stories from people’s reaction to your outfit at the con ? ^^
At Fanime 2009, my first time cosplay there, I got glump, alot… I never knew it was part of cosplay. Everyone loved kakashi’s hair. It was the wig. Chicks dig guys in wigs… *coughs*
How did you get started cosplaying and what got you interested ?
I have some very close friends of mine who has been cosplaying for a few years. At every conventions I joined them with, I was always be in the sidelines watching as other took there pictures and answered people’s questions about what they were wearing. Bad enough I love Kakashi’s character I have his Anbu tattoo. Might as well cosplay Kakashi from Naruto and from that point, I told myself I wanted to cosplay. So I did. And here I am answering some questions!
What are the con did you first attended and what’s your favorite con that you’ve attended so far and why ?
My very first con I attended was AX 2001. It was the best one out of all of them because… I sat with the voice actress from Evangelion, Rei Ayanami, Amanda Winn Lee. We talked for a good while. Talked about new movie that came out at that time, and other animes she did. But my favorite is Fanime. Fanime was great and met a lot of cool people there. And even though AX is a big con, Fanime is user friendly!
What does cosplay mean to you ?
It’s something I like to do. Not only my friends do it, but I have fun doing it. Every time you put your make-up, fixing your wigs, finding the right props to use, packing your car for that 4 day stay, rushing your self to get a room in a hotel, change and get to your photo shoot on time… Its something that a person has to go through understand the meaning of “Cosplay” “I’m a dude playing a dude, disguise as another dude!”
If you had unlimited funds/technology/time, what is your dream cosplay ?
Wow… I’d get my whole body change, surgery, everything! Just to cosplay that character. But that’s if I have the money, time and the anime I wanted to cosplay.
